Was going to write this last night, but the browser crashed and I was too tired to retype. I plowed through the Blue Submarine No. 6 box set last night and I thought it was a very good story: it goes against the "beautiful but shallow" hallmark of Gonzo Studios by being beautiful but a little bit deeper. It also marks a turning point in CG integration in anime from the older, poor-looking Zoids and Initial D to the newer, more beautiful Cowboy Bebop, Love Hina, Macross Zero and Last Exile. The CG is still obvious in Blue Submarine No. 6, but it looks good and blends beautiful ocean blues with rusting mechanical designs. It's a great study in contrasts.
